DIY Gender Reveal Bows

Come and make your own gender reveal pins and bowtie printable for your next baby gender reveal party to help people declare Team Boy or Team Girl.

Today I want to show you all how easy it is to make your very own paper bows and bowties for your gender reveal party. Plus, I’ve included a free printable below for you to make it even easier!

Although we asked all of our guests to wear either pink or blue to our gender reveal party, we wanted to make sure it was obvious whether they were Team Boy or Team Girl so figured bows and bowties would be the perfect fit.

If you have a cutting machine like a Silhouette or Cricut, this project will be much easier, but definitely not impossible. It just takes a little bit of dedicated time and willingness to have glue on your fingers for a few days but so worth it!

Supplies

  • Printable from below or bow and bowtie outline
  • Pink and blue paper (Cardstock was my weapon of choice so that it was stiffer and didn’t look flimsy when people wore them.)
  • Safety pins
  • Glue

Start by downloading the printables below. For a gender reveal party, you’ll need both the bow and bowtie printable. Either print the file on the corresponding color paper and cut out the pieces or put the file in Silhouette software (or whatever machine you use) and use that to have the machine do the precise cutting work for you.

Once you have all your pieces cut then you’ll want to wrap all the bow pieces around your finger to start a good curve. I know this may sound like a waste of time but it really helps with the overall look of the bows so they don’t bend all funky-like when you go to glue them. Do the same thing with the straight piece that will be used for the center of each bow and bowtie.

When that is all done then comes the assembly part. Go ahead and grab your closest gluing adhesive and test what works best for you. I found the hot glue was overkill. A glue stick wasn’t enough. And the tacky quicky dry glue was juuuuust right! (Do you ever feel like Goldlilocks while working on a craft project? I know I do!)

Be sure to hold down each piece for about five seconds before moving on to the next one to glue so that the pieces don’t move. Once all your paper pieces are dry comes the final step. This is when you do want to use your glue gun to be sure the safety pin stays secure. If you have an extra set of willing hands, now’s the time to put on your happy face because this part goes way faster with four hands, rather than two.

We found one would hold the bow and place the safety pin while the other did the gluing part. Just be careful not to burn the person helping you because that doesn’t make them very happy. (I speak from experience…sorry babe!!)

And that’s it! Happy, diy gender reveal bows to be proud of!
