It’s your older sister’s baby shower for her first baby. You want it to be perfect and special and fun and unique. You love parties. You love babies. But then you realize you’re pregnant with your second baby and sick. So what do you do?!
You frantically hope and pray everything comes together just perfectly and that the little details will help tie together the fun Woodland baby shower you had planned.
And that’s just what happened!
We had already set the baby shower date and sent out invites by the time I realized I was pregnant with our second and that this pregnancy was going to be different than the first. Half of my days for weeks I just wanted to curl up on the couch and sip Sprite to calm my nauseas stomach…but that’s not really possible when you’ve got a party to plan.

I knew we needed some cute decor that could double as decor to give the mom-to-be.
I had these boring 1″ wooden blocks laying around that I knew would be perfect after some TLC! After settling on a color scheme for the party I bought some cheap craft paint and set to work making these boring blocks into some easy geometric wood blocks.
All you have to do is grab some painter’s tape and turn on a good movie…or Gilmore Girls if you’re anything like me. Start taping straight edges and designs onto the blocks. Remember, they don’t have to be perfect!
Once you have them all taped off, run your fingernail along each tape edge one more time to make sure it won’t bleed once you start painting.
And now it’s time to paint. Grab your paint and some cheap foam brushes and go crazy.
Seriously, it’s that easy!! Peel up your tape and you have some adorable DIY geometric wood blocks that make perfect baby shower decor that can also be used in a nursery. I love how they turned out!!

These would make a great gift! I also think they would do well at a craft fair – maybe package them in a clear box with a tag explaining that they are for kids? (Just in case it wasn’t clear, hehe.) Thanks for the idea!
