How to Create an Easy Feature Wall Without Paint

Did you know it was so easy to create a feature wall WITHOUT paint? This is such a simple way to make a statement in a room and DIY project idea for your home.

Looking for an easy solution to make a statement in a room? Painting a room can be so much work, but I’ve found an easy way to make a statement without needing to pull out the paint roller and drop cloths!

When we were making over our guest room into Mini Me’s new bedroom I knew I wanted one wall to stand out, HOWEVER, I did not want to paint an accent wall knowing one day she would be sharing that room with her little sister and I wanted to make sure all their decor would go together. The solution? A vinyl feature wall!

It’s such a simple way to make a statement. Let me show you how easy it is to make a feature wall without paint!

How to Make a Feature Wall without Paint

All you need is some vinyl and an imagination! That’s it!

I got this white glitter vinyl roll from Expressions Vinyl to match our toddler chic bedroom design plan with lots of sparkle and shine! I then cut out about 100 2″ circles using my Silhouette Cameo.

If you want to go with circles and don’t have a cutting machine, you can easily grab a circle punch right here and cut the vinyl with the punch.

This project is super easy because you can easily move the circles around until you get them placed how you want it to look. I found it was easiest to have my husband up on a chair placing circles while I stood back and directed him where they should go.

If you want to do it similar to how we did, start in one corner with more circles close together and then slowly fan out.

Tips for success

Tip 1

After working with vinyl for years, I’ve learned it’s worth it to get the good stuff. Don’t buy cheap vinyl if you want the vinyl to stick well. Spend a few extra dollars so it will last for years. We’ve had our vinyl feature wall up for 6 months and it still looks like it did the day we put it up.

Tip 2

Clean the wall where you’re going to place the vinyl before putting it up to make sure it sticks well.

Tip 3

If you have an older punch, you might need to sharpen your punch in order to get it to cut through the thick vinyl. Just grab a piece of aluminum foil and punch the foil a few times to sharpen the punch blade.

Tip 4

Get your kiddo involved! Mini Me had so much fun helping put the circles up on her wall — and wearing them around like stickers. Just make sure if you have to move a circle that they aren’t watching. If she would have seen me pull up one of the circles to move them I’m sure the whole bottom half of her wall would be empty of circles by now.

So, it’s really that easy. You could do all sorts of designs, shapes, or colors! Wouldn’t gold triangles be cute? Or maybe some subtle black stripes in a guest room? So many ideas are stirring!
