Mini Ombre Herb Pots

With Spring in full bloom I figured it was high time I got my big postpartum booty planting something. Last week I came across these darling mini herb planters from Coco and Mingo and loved them. Lucky for me, Target had these dainty little mini clay pots 2 for $1 and I knew it was a match made in heaven.

Make a set of these mini ombre herb pots for under $5! A fun DIY craft idea to do with the family.

My friend Becky from The Logbook shared how she made these ombre succulent planters for a friend’s baby shower and I loved it so much I decided to use the same technique for these planters.

I started by picking up some acrylic paint from my local craft store in some fun spring colors. Since my kitchen is already orange, I knew I should start there. Throw in a little yellow and you have yourself a party!

This paint dries very fast so by the time you’re done with your first color, paint your pots, and mix your next color, you’ll be ready to paint your next color. Here’s how I did the mixing…

#1 White with a spot of color
#2 Half white, half color
#3 Color with a spot of white (to tone the intensity down a little)

It seemed to work well and I love how they turned out!

Now came time for the herbs. We’ve been working on cooking more in our house and I figure if we already have fresh herbs then it might encourage more cooking. I picked up some thyme, rosemary, sage, and oregano from our local Fred Meyer’s. Most any place that has a gardening section will have fresh potted herbs to pick up.

Once you get them home, you’ll need to be careful re-potting them into your clay pots. If there aren’t holes in the bottom of your clay pots, add some rocks first so that the water can drain. Once they outgrow their pots I plan to replant them in our garden beds we built last Spring.

And there we have it. Some darling ombre herb pots that are sure to freshen up any kitchen space! Super simple and easy project that can be done in just an hour.

What do you think? Do you keep herbs within arms reach in your kitchen?

I’d love to hear how you display them. Share with me in the comments below!
