A Cute Purple Nursery Reveal for a Baby Girl

A sweet little girl’s purple nursery reveal filled with simple DIY projects and organization.

Seeing as how Clara girl is now 7 weeks old, I guess it is about time that I finally show you her full nursery reveal. To say I love it is an understatement!!

Four years ago when we were still in college and babies were nowhere on the horizon, I randomly asked Justin what color our future baby girls room should be one day. Without a blink of an eye, he responds dark purple and grey. And it stuck.

That day I started working on a puff quilt for my future baby’s hope chest and was always keeping an eye out for nursery inspiration. One day he also randomly mentions he wants white giraffes as part of a theme for our future girls nursery. Seeing as how I married an artist, I shouldn’t have been surprised with his odd, not-so-generic, requests. Because of this, when we found out we were having a girl it made it very easy to start planning the nursery. And with that, I shared with you our nursery inspiration board and we got to work creating our dream nursery on a budget.

So welcome to Clara’s nursery: a cozy and chic girly haven.

The crib and glider are both from Babies R Us. These were our two big investment purchases and I hope they’ll last through all our babies. The giraffe wall hanging is from Hobby Lobby and painted purple. The rest I will tell you all about below…

Starting with the mobile. I searched for hours looking for white giraffes to incorporate into the nursery. Without spending a fortune there weren’t many options…until I found these adorable white felt giraffes on etsy. Unfortunately, it looks like she has now closed down her shop. The giraffes came sewn on white ribbon with clouds and are just adorable. I then bought some small dowels, painted them three shades of purple, and then attached it all together. I love how it turned out and became a focal piece for the room.

Our closet was a boring closet before we got our hands on it. Since we plan to have 4-6 children and this is our designated “nursery” the clothes don’t need to have room to hang to the ground. So instead, we built some shelves using some cheapo boards and 1×2’s as supports and painted it all a dark gray.

One of my favorite pieces in our nursery are the $5 bins I bought at Target during a Black Friday sale to store all our extra baby clothes in. Using my Silhouette Cameo I cut out some labels on chalkboard vinyl to mark what is in each bin. It’ll make it super easy to keep all of the clothes organized as she grows out of clothes. I haven’t had a chance to make a little label yet, but the giraffe bin is for “I’m Growing!” clothes. And as we realize she grows out of clothes we can throw them in there and then they’ll go in their bin below until the next baby comes.

And the baby shoes……..are they not the most precious? Of course they need to be out on display.

This IKEA dresser is working out so great! In the top drawers we have baby care products (like baby powder, vitamin D, thermometer, etc.), the next drawer has toys, then we have diapers and wipes, and the last drawer has prefolds that we put on the changing pad to keep it clean. The middle drawers have clothes and the bottom drawers hold diapers just perfectly.

And of course we have a giant stuffed bear along with other stuffed animals in the corner because why not. I can just imagine a few years down the road walking in and seeing her curled up in the bear’s lap reading a book. How darling will that be?

The purple curtains I found on clearance 50% off at Fred Meyer’s. The sign in the window was a decoration from our gender reveal party that I made using a goodwill frame, piece of wood I painted with chalkboard paint, and vinyl.

This little corner is my happy place. I have slept one too many hours in this chair over the last 7 weeks but I wouldn’t change it for the world. On the side table (that we built) I keep my iPad, a book, and extra burp rags. On the other side of the chair I keep a boppy for those late night feedings in case I fall asleep, then I’m not scared I’ll drop her.

And of course I just had to include this picture our photographer took when Clara was just 10 days old. So adorable!! Thanks Nakalan!!

This alphabet banner was a gift and is made out of old storybooks. I love how it adds some more color to the room. And I shared our diy bookshelves a few weeks back here. I love that her books are always on display and will hopefully encourage her to be a reader.

And for the big news…I have officially finished baby girl’s puff quilt! This has been a 3 year project and officially done…with the help of my mom of course. I absolutely love how it turned out! It’s thicker than planned so is now being called her official playmat but heck, at least it’s finished and made with love! If you follow me on instagram, you know I was busy trying to get it done the day I went into labor.

  1. I love it! I really enjoyed also how you organized the closet! I have my son’s old clothes in storage bins but I should definitely make cute labels like you did. Thanks for the post!

  2. It’s just beautiful — you’ve obviously invested a lot of time and thought. My favorite photo features the smiling Clara. What a sweetie! My second favorite item is the puff quilt. It’s gorgeous. How funny that your husband suggested purple and gray and it worked out. Things have a way of working out.

  3. What a great nursery! Beautiful choice of colors- and it’s so unique. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a deep purple nursery before, and now that I’ve seen yours, I have to ask, “Why not?” It works perfectly. Does it still look like this, or have you made changes as Clara has gotten bigger?

    1. Thanks!! I have to give credit to my hubby for the color choices. :)

It is pretty much all exactly the same as this. The diaper drawer I moved and there’s a few more giraffes we’ve added to the collection but that’s pretty much it. :)

  4. I love this space! I found your blog on PDXBloggers – and since I’m expecting in March this post definitely was right up my alley as I’ve been researching how to make the baby room functional yet unique and inviting.

  5. What a sweet room. The colors are gorgeous. I wanted to let you know that I am featuring this in a nursery roundup if you don’t mind.
