Make this easy hexagon art to display on your wall using coffee stirrers. This DIY honeycomb design inspiration is too cute and simple!

As I’ve mentioned throughout this series, I am on a mission to decorate our home on a budget while still maintaining our style. Modern home design is not the cheapest, but I am on a mission to DIY the heck out of our home and make it look awesome.

One day I was mixing my caramel sauce into my shot of espresso with a coffee stirrer and it was like a lightbulb went off! Just like the popsicle stick shelves, I could use these coffee stirrers to make something awesome to add some design elements to one of our blank walls in our home.

I love the popsicle stick shelves, however, because of the length of the popsicle sticks, the hexagon can only be so large. The coffee stirrers, on the hand, or longer and skinnier and give a more refined look that are perfect for just some simple geometric wall art.

Materials to make easy hexagon art:

1. Print Hexagon Pattern

Start by printing out a hexagon pattern to base your shape off of. Learn from my mistakes. Trying to freehand a hexagon is worse than just taking the time to print out a hexagon shape and using that.

2. Make Base

Lay out your first three coffee stirrers for the base layer then add a dot of each glue to the end of each stick and add the other stirrers.

Let the base dry completely before moving on to the next step. It’s much easier to have your basic shape set before you start building up your hexagon art.

3. Glue

Once your base is set, start building up your stirrers alternating a dot of the loctite power grab and stirrers. It doesn’t take much to hold it on and it grips well to the wood sticks.

I learned a lot about glue through my process of making these and the popsicle stick shelves.

Gorilla glue — doesn’t dry quick enough and slips around
Hot glue — holds well, but too thick and it takes longer to make each shelf because the glue dries so fast
Tacky glue — works okay, but not super secure
Loctite Power Grab Express Construction Adhesive <– this was the winner! — grabs the sticks well, but doesn’t dry too fast

4. Dry

Once you get the depth you want, set your hexagon aside and let it dry for a couple hours.

5. Paint

After it’s dry you can give it a few coats of paint, and you’re done.

I did less layers than the popsicle stick shelves because I didn’t actually want to put heavier items on them, maybe just an air plant or two, and that’s it.

I love how this geometric art looks and adds a graphic element to an otherwise boring, empty wall.
