Making Progress // One Room Challenge Week 4

What a week! In case you missed it, last week I showed you the bold paint color we went with for our powder room makeover. It ended up taking 4+ coats of paint and a lot of work.

When we filled holes from taking the towel bar, mirror, and cabinet off the wall, I thought it would all blend in with the texture of the wall. Boy was I wrong!

Once we got everything painted, the walls looked like a disaster. We ended up buying spray texture to cover up the holes better and then repaint.

Since we have two very active little ones all this primarily is done in the evenings and lately it takes a few hours to get the toddler to bed so it’s been some late nights on top of trying to finish up some other projects around the house before the holidays hit.

We also painted the vanity and doors a light blue-gray. I love how it turned out!

Some exciting mail made it’s way to our doorstep this week and I am so pumped to show you what we got, but you’re going to have to wait until next week to see what we found!

We went back and forth on whether or not we should paint the old light fixture and update the shades or get a new one altogether. Well, we decided that the old one couldn’t be updated to look the way we wanted without major work — at which point would probably end up costing more than if we just bought a new light — so light hunting I went.

It was tough to find the perfect vanity light that wasn’t too traditional, too industrial, or too farmhouse.

But, I found one! The light arrived on Tuesday and I was pretty excited to see how it would fit the space. I was gone when my husband installed the light and when I came home let’s just say there was a moment of panic….or a few moments of panic.

I was literally laughing I thought it was so wrong. The bathroom was so dark I was horrified! What had we done?!

Thankfully a few hours later my annoyingly cool, calm, and collected husband was like, “Here…look at it with the mirror up.”

WHAT?! So good!

The mirror help reflects the light and makes it 1000x brighter. Phew!

Anyways, that was our saga for the week. This next week we’re working on installing the new toilet paper holder so we can have a better functioning bathroom again, updating countertops, updating the mirror, and building a shelf for above the toilet. Then it’s on to every person’s favorite part…ACCESSORIES!

Stay tuned for another update coming your way next week!

Here’s this week’s updated progress list:

  • Remove upper cabinet
  • Paint upper walls
  • Update countertops
  • Paint lower cabinet
  • Update light
  • New/updated sink fixture
  • Replace towel bar
