Review of What A Room Custom Comfy Lounge Sectional Sofa

After hours & hours of internet search after reading great reviews on Reddit, testing out sofas at malls and furniture retailers, we settled on this What A Room custom sectional sofa (Lounge Comfy Bumper Sectional). From start to finish the experience was a pleasure. Every step of the way, someone was available to support me without being pushy or overbearing. They answered all my questions promptly and even double-checked my layout before production to make sure everything would fit. It honestly felt like working with a small team that genuinely cared about getting it right.

  • Our configuration: 120” Width x 88” Length x 42” Depth (24” Seat Depth) in Bella Agave (Vevet) in Medium Firmness
  • Cost: $4,729 including shipping.

We needed a L-Shaped sectional that is dog friendly, so we ordered some fabric samples.

They allow you to pick 12 fabric samples, so we went for some greens and a few blues as that’s what my partner and I like. They even added a few more green fabrics than we ordered which was a nice surprise. The swatches arrived quickly and were clearly labeled, which made it super easy to compare and decide. It also gave us confidence in the fabric quality before committing to such a big purchase.

So we ended up with the Bella Agave which is a performance velvet.

It is super easy to clean and the water & stain resistant was our biggest decision maker as we have a dog. The great thing is that their cushion and pillow covers are removable and the fabric is machine washable so in case we get it really dirty we can always wash it by machine. It also feels surprisingly soft for a performance fabric, which was a nice bonus. We’ve already had a couple spills and muddy paw prints, and everything wiped right off without leaving a mark.

The main thing that sold us on What A Room is that they use a High Resilient 2.5 lb density seat cushion.

This cushion is on the higher end as other retailers like Crate & Barrel and Room & Board use a 1.8 density foam. The 2.5 premium foam is meant to last over a decade whereas a 1.8-2.0 lasts only 3-5 years and then you will see the wear and tear and sagginess that some sofas get after use. Since we have a large dog (Max) we wanted something to last our investment as sofas aren’t cheap! And honestly, after months of daily use, the cushions still feel just as supportive as day one.

We went with a deep sofa so we can lounge at 42” overall depth (24” seat depth).

I love how we are allowed to choose the depth of our sofa while customization. This gave us a lot of flexibility in choosing which design & fabric we like. Other retailers like Crate & Barrel & Joybird have designs we adore but because the depth options are limited, it turned us away. Being able to customize the depth made all the difference for both comfort and how it fits in our space

In the end, we were very pleased with our sectional sofa from What A Room and the experience was good.

The only downside is that the sofa takes a bit longer at 6 weeks total (from order to delivery) as it is manufactured in California. But it’s well worth it due to the quality and custom made nature. So my review of What A Room custom sectional sofa is that it is totally worth the purchase. We’ve already gotten multiple compliments on it from family and friends, and it truly feels like a centerpiece in our home.
