38 Weeks

38 weeks

How far along? 38 weeks! Baby is about 19 inches long and weighs about 6-7 pounds. My midwives say she’s a very normal size, not too big and not too small. Right on track! Each week my fundal height has grown exactly as it should. Yay baby!

Maternity clothes: Always!

Sleep: The past week has got more difficult. I’m waking up every night now. Dealing with insomnia which they have me drinking sleep tea to help and tomorrow I have my first acupuncture appointment which should also help.

Food cravings: Nope. Guess I missed out on having fun cravings with this pregnancy.

Nausea: Feeling good.

Total weight gain: It’s been a rough few weeks since I left my consistent work schedule. Eating has been a nibble here and a nibble there which I know is not good for me or the baby. As of yesterday, I have gained 34 pounds total this pregnancy. Thankfully, my midwife is awesome and says that’s nothing to be worried about. Although that number TERRIFIES me!

Movement: She’s slowed down some just because she has run out of room in there. At my midwife appointment yesterday, she pointed out that at every appointment for the past few months she has flipped between right side, left side, right, left, right, left….kind of fun. She’s definitely active!

Gender: Haven’t had another ultrasound to confirm but assuming she’s still a girl!

Labor Signs: This is going to be TMI but I don’t want to forget these things and I’m sure there’s other new momma’s out there like me that want to hear about what other people’s symptoms are. So for about the past week we’ve had a significant more amount of discharge. Midwife said, very normal. As we know from my post about 6 pregnancy symptoms no one ever told me about, I have GI issues. Well for about the past week I have not. Let’s just say I’m getting to the point of too much. Like going number two 2-4 times a day. They say this is your body’s way of relaxing and emptying everything out to prepare for labor. So weird! Starting about five days ago I started having significant cramping that comes and goes throughout the day. Nothing consistent but definitely present. Braxton Hicks contractions are definitely there. I went on a 3 mile walk the other day and had one about every 5-10 minutes. Also, having more low back pain than I’ve had in months. My midwife also chalks this up to my body just getting ready but she got me in to see a masseuse next week anyways to help it out. So all that to say, yes, I am definitely having signs that labor could be near.

I’m also adding a little section today on what supplements I’m taking. If you know me well, you know I do not take pills. Like ever! Like I could go a year or two sometimes without popping any pills….even just like a baby aspirin or something for a headache. I hate taking anything that changes who I am.

However, once we switched midwives around week 12, that all changed. We are at a naturopath midwife office and I trust them with everything I have. When they suggest something and tell me the research to back it up I quickly snatch it up. I trust that they have my baby and my best interest in mind and I know that they wouldn’t suggest anything that could harm either of us. They honestly want me to have the best baby and birth that I can possibly have. So with that being said, currently I am on a number of things. It’s not that they just gave them all to me and said take this. But as I have a problem or my body is doing something funky, they turn to something natural to help or support my body.

For example, when I was having all the liver problems, I was put on a Lipotropic Complex to help stimulate my liver function. I also started drinking Raspberry Leaf tea with dandelion. Dandelion is supposed to be really good for your liver. Also, I was doing castor oil packs about every other day too which helps my liver detox and get moving again.

Besides my prenatal, I’m taking a probiotic to help regulate my body, 7 raspberry young shoot drops twice a day and evening primrose oil both to help with cervix ripening, and cod liver oil to help with baby’s brain development. For me, it seems like a ton but I feel great and my midwives are monitoring me so we’ll see if this helps me have an easier delivery.

Belly button in or out? In. Pretty sure I’m not losing that.

Wedding ring on or off? On. Still haven’t had any swelling in my hands…unless I go for long walks.

Happy or moody? Happy! Can’t wait to meet our little girl!

Best moment this week: Oh boy! I think feeling like we’re ready has been the best thing. We finally have our bags packed as best we can. Nursery is almost completely done. Diaper bag is packed. Labor snacks are bought. Now it’s just the waiting game. There will always be things on my to do list but if this baby decides to come today, I would be so happy!

Looking forward to: Meeting our little one! The dog has been acting so strange the past day and so not normal. Poor Mr g is convinced that means baby is coming and he still is hoping to work one more week before going on leave so we’ll see what happens.
